Speaking of harsh conditions, I have the same recorder featured prominently in that video, a Tascam DR-100 mIII, and it took direct hit by a saltwater splash recently. Three weeks later, it's still on the fritz. Wah wah.
Yeah I really enjoy watching his content! Very open, honest and engaging! Sorry to hear about the Tascam... saltwater too... yikes! Have you tried opening it up and using a soft brush with isopropyl alcohol to clean the board?

I tried isopropyl alcohol without a brush. Getting direct access to the board involves a complex disassembly. A work in progress…
